About Mentation

Mentation measures cognitive performance instead of gamifying it. Most brain-training apps borrow the language of games — levels, streak rewards, virtual currency — to keep people opening the app. Mentation takes a different reference point: tools like Whoop and Oura, which report your body's numbers back to you plainly and let you draw your own conclusions. Mentation does the same for reaction speed and short-term memory.

Who Mentation is for

Mentation is built for people who already track other parts of their health — sleep, HRV, workouts — and want the same kind of baseline-driven measurement for cognition, without the point systems and celebratory sound effects typical of gamified brain-training apps.

How the measurement works

Each core exercise is based on a published cognitive-science paradigm rather than an invented game mechanic: Simple and Choice Reaction Time follow Donders (1868), Digit Span follows the Wechsler memory-span tradition, and Sequence Memory follows Corsi (1972). Your baseline is calculated from your own first three sessions, and every later result is reported as a delta against that baseline — not against other users.

What Mentation is not

Mentation is not a medical device, and it does not diagnose, treat, or claim to prevent any condition. Its self-assessment tests (personality, chronotype, career interests, and similar) are for educational purposes only, not clinical instruments. Not a medical device. For educational purposes only.
